Annual Friends of Grace Gala: Salsa and Stone

5–8 pm · Sunday, April 12, 2015
Salvadoran food, salsa music and dance lessons, and the legendary Silent Auction—all to raise money for the Saving Grace fund for buildings and grounds. Saving Grace’s current priority project is the restoration of stone arches around Grace’s windows and doors. The stone has served us well for nearly 150 years, but is showing its age. Several arches pose a potential hazard, and the stone is a structural component of the building. As a result, Grace’s Vestry and membership feel some urgency about raising funds for Saving Grace to initiate this project.

You should have received your e-mail invitation by now. If you haven't, please let John Graham know (rector@gracedc.org). Or, you can visit the Gala registration page, hosted by Blacktie-DC, courtesy of Grace member and Blacktie-DC CEO Jan Tyler (note that credit card companies charge the purchaser a fee for this service: Mastercard and Visa 2.7%, American Express 3.25%). Also, feel free to pay by check, either mailing it to the Grace office or placing it in the offering plate on Sunday: $100/individual, $175/couple, $50/student.

Donations to the Silent Auction are most welcome: services, gift cards, vacation properties are among the items the auction has ofered in previous years. Email Ari Lynn Robinson or Peyton Craighill, co-coordinators of the auction, for more information.

Grace Church 150th Anniversary

Grace will celebrate its 150th anniversary on Easter Sunday of 2016. In order to best present our story of worship and service, our IT and website consultant Margaret Dimond has made a simple plan to best preserve our heritage and archive. Opportunities for editors, writers and technical assistants to put this plan into action are open and help at any level much needed. We have a wonderful story to tell and a magnificent chance to tell it.

Looking forward to maintaining the archives for the 150th Anniversary, there are two areas of documentation and support that would be very useful to the endeavor:

  • identification of archive photos
  • participation in a recorded oral history

Those who are inspired to contribute or help are urged to contact John Boynton at jfboynton1@gmail.com.
