Centering Prayer
Tuesdays 12:15 PM-1:00 PM
Grace's mid-week prayer group is led by Helen Buhr. Centering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate contemplative prayer by preparing one to receive the gift of contemplative prayer. It presents an ancient Christian teaching (e.g., "The Cloud of Unknowing") in a contemporary form. It is not meant to replace other types of prayer; it simply puts them into a new and fuller perspective.

The prayer group meets in the sanctuary.

Bible Study
Wednesdays, 7:00 PM (potluck supper, 6:15 and Evening Prayer 6:45 for those who can come earlier)
On break till January 16, 2008; theme from January 16 till Ash Wednesday:  The Bible and the Washington Post

Saturday 6 p.m. service is no longer offered

Grace's Table
Now has its own listserv:  gracestable@gracedc.org; e-mail comments and questions to this address, and sign up to help out!
Saturdays from September through May, 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM
When:  Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. - setup 11:00 to 11:30; cleanup 12:30 to 1;

Where:  The Parish Hall; on the lawn in good weather

What it's not:  a soup kitchen; a large-scale feeding program; an attempt to proselytize

What it is:  a simple meal prepared by 4 or 5 Grace members for themselves and 10 or so guests from the Georgetown Ministry Center - usually people who are homeless or at the margins in and around Georgetown; a discussion, based on a passage or two from the Bible, about shared joys and challenges

How I can help:  sign up at church (on sheet near the entrance) or by e-mail (jmg@gracedc.org) to bring an entrĂ©e, salad or dessert serving 6 to 8 people and stay for the meal and discussion (dropoffs are allowed, but we'd rather you hang around!); volunteer to lead the discussion (the Rector will provide all the help you need for this)

Why?  To allow for direct contact between "church people" and those at he margins of Georgetown life in a controlled, safe and limited environment; to increase the collaboration between Grace and the Georgetown Ministry Center.
